Have you ever come home to see ants taking over your kitchen and wonder: “How do I get rid of ants in my kitchen?” Ants appear in the kitchen more often than other household locations because that’s where they find food, water and a place to live. Ants are one of the peskiest bugs, so it’s critical to prevent ants up front and get rid of them properly once they’ve entered your home.
To prevent ants from making a home out of your kitchen, follow these simple steps.
1) Keep your kitchen clean. Cleaning up your kitchen is the first step in preventing ants from setting up house in your home. Ants can detect very small amounts of grease and sweets on counters, appliances, backsplashes, and under stoves, dishwashers and refrigerators. Many of these “ant foods” may not be visible to our eyes but they are most likely present. Be sure to wipe down countertops, and mop frequently to help limit food sources for hungry ants.
2) Clean up highly trafficked food areas. Ants prefer locations where food tends to collect, like around the dishwasher and between the stove/range and countertops. Keeping these areas clean and free from food particles will help keep ants out of the kitchen.
3) Eliminate water sources. In addition to small food crumbs, ants are also attracted to water sources. They will drink from leaky faucets, leaky drains and condensation trays under refrigerators. Make sure to keep areas under sinks and appliances dry.
4) Use Combat® ant baits as a preventative measure. Combat® baits can be placed around your kitchen to help prevent an ant invasion.
